the activities

Below is just a sampling of the many things to do in and around Depoe Bay. For more information and local events, please visit the Depoe Bay Chamber of Commerce, Lincoln City Chamber of Commerce, or Newport Chamber of Commerce.

We only recommend what we here at the Inn have personally experienced, and all businesses, locales & activities mentioned on this page are recommended by Inn staff!

whale watching

Watch whales from the comfort of the Inn, or take a whale whalewatching charter onto the open sea to view these amazing creatures up close. Take a ride on one of the larger boats with Tradewinds or Dockside Charters. Or hop in the Zodiac with local whale researcher Carrie Newell to learn all about our local whale population. Carrie is one of the foremost authorities on gray whales on the Oregon Coast, has been featured on PBS and has over 20 years of teaching and research experience. And make sure to stop in at the Whale Watching Center for information and assistance in spotting the whales and other wildlife.

fishing

Sail on a charter boat for deep-sea fishing action! Sign up with Tradewinds or Dockside Charters for larger groups. You can also rock, surf and river fish, or go clamming and crabbing in season (ask about using our crab cooker).

stormwatching

The sun doesn’t have to be shining to enjoy the Oregon Coast. Join us in the off-season to witness the power of nature at work - huge waves and winds carving out the volcanic basalt of our rocky shoreline. See the Spouting Horn blowholes along the seawall where waves that run beneath the lava bed force air and spray up to 60 feet in the air!

lighthouses, beaches & parks

Tour Yaquina Head and Yaquina Bay Lighthouses in Newport. Visit one of the more than 30 State Parks that Lincoln County has to offer. Experience the miles and miles of pristine beaches - go tide pooling, beachcombing, agate hunting, kite flying, build a sand castle, have a picnic…the possibilities and opportunities are endless!

outdoor recreation & wildlife viewing

Enjoy one of the many scenic trails here, like Drift Creek Falls Trail, Cascade Head Trail, or one of Three Capes Loop trails. Try surfing, kite-surfing or kayaking. Watch the whales, harbor seals and sea lions, see bald eagles, blue herons, egrets, Canada geese and shorebirds too numerous to name! Make sure to leave time for a trip to the Oregon Coast Aquarium and Hatfield Marine Science Center for a fun and interactive education on local and ocean wildlife. Or try your luck at Chinook Winds Casino located on the north end of Lincoln City, about 13 miles from the Inn. Lastly, explore tidepools and enjoy beach activities at the Fogarty Creek State Recreation Area! (Be advised that the North Fogarty gets you to the tidepools)

wine, beer, coffee!

We Northwesterners love our local wine, beer and coffee! If it’s beer you love, head to The Horn Public House, home of Depoe Bay Brewery, and sample one of their many local brews, or have one of their delicious hand-made pizzas! Venture into the valley for a day of winery tours, or take a five minute walk from your room and say hello to Travis or Adam at the Depoe Bay Wine Cave for some wine tasting (tell ‘em the Inn sent you)! If you’re heading south to Newport, stop in at the Rogue Brewery for locally brewed beer (and great food, too!), or get a great deal for Rogue beers here at the Inn! If heading north to Lincoln City, visit McMenamins Lighthouse Brewpub or Pelican Brewery on beautiful Siletz Bay!

For coffee, get your daily latte fix, or pick up some freshly roasted coffee locally at Pirate Coffee Company. We also have Pirate Coffee available in our rooms and for purchase in the lobby - both ground & whole bean! Also, Arch Rock Caffe here in town has great coffee and amazing breakfast burritos that you can enjoy either at the cafe or to-go!

shopping

Visit Depoe Bay’s charming shops and galleries, just a 10 minute walk from the Inn. Venture 10 miles north into Lincoln City and shop `til you drop at the Lincoln City Outlets, or 12 miles south to Newport and the quaint Nye Beach and Historic Bayfront areas.
